Part of what makes Summit County so special is its location. 9,602 feet above sea level means it takes a little while to get there – but we promise the trip is worth it! Some visitors want to let someone else drive them while others may want to get in the driver’s seat, point the wheel due west and head into the Rocky Mountains. Whichever you prefer, we have the best recommendations for your travels to Summit County!
Located less than 75 miles from the Mile-High City of Denver, Summit County visitors often choose to fly into Denver International Airport and head due west into the mountains. Those arriving at DIA should note that the airport lies about 25 miles to the east of downtown Denver, making downtown a great stopping point for a quick bite or just to acclimate to the altitude. Take the A Train from the airport straight into a historic landmark in the heart of downtown, Union Station. Grab a snack at Terminal Bar or check out Denver’s iconic bookstore, the Tattered Cover before the trek into the mountains.
Once you are ready to adventure into the mountains, there are three ways to get there:
- Airport Shuttle: Book single or multiple seats with Fresh Tracks Transportation. Services are offered daily throughout the winter with multiple pick-up times and locations available. If you’re looking for a more personal experience, an early morning pick up time or traveling with a large group, Fresh Tracks offers chartered shuttles designed for groups of up to 10 people. A chartered shuttle also offers courtesy stops to pick up things like groceries or ski rentals. They also offer transportation between each mountain. With transportation service from door to door, Fresh Tracks is the highest rated airport shuttle in Summit County.
- Rental Cars: A popular choice for visitors, renting a car when arriving at DIA gives visitors the opportunity to come and go as they please. Once the car is booked, it’s a short shuttle ride to pick it up. Toss your luggage in the back, skis on the rack (make sure to request at time of booking) and all that’s left is to head West on I-70. DIA offers multiple car rental companies to choose from.
- Private Car Service: If you want the luxury of a car to yourself but are not interested in navigating the mountain roads, book the privately chauffeured Luxury SUV Charter through Summit Express. Perfect for up to five people and their luggage, Summit Express provides transportation from DIA to all mountains along I-70 (plus Aspen, Winter Park and Steamboat Springs), is available 24/7, makes complimentary stops for guests needs and is pet-friendly. Shuttle transportation and transportation for large parties is also available.
