Kids have gone back to school, the leaves are starting to change, and the weather is cooling. It’s the time of year when Summit County locals and visitors alike are waiting not-so-patiently for the first snowfall and before long, the opening day of ski season! We’ve rounded up opening dates for all the mountains across Summit County so you can plan to get the real first chair.
Although no specific day has been chosen, Arapahoe Basin’s lifts are always the first to turn each year (and usually the last, as well.) Holding to their promise of the longest season around, A-Basin promises to open by mid-October - but true to A-Basin style, they typically surprise and delight early season skiers and riders by loading chairs a week or two before that. This year, the Basin joined the Mountain Collective pass, giving skiers and riders more options for terrain across 18 different mountains.
Family-friendly Keystone Resort hasn’t announced any specifics, but speculation and forecasting suggest they’ll be making snow and turning lifts before Halloween. Skiers and riders with the newly minted Keystone Plus Pass will start the season early at Keystone and enjoy unlimited late spring skiing at Breckenridge after April 1st. Together the two mountains will offer one of the longest seasons in the country. Add in extra perks like five days at Crested Butte and buddy passes for friends and Keystone is the best choice for families or those on a budget.
Breckenridge Resort kicks off the season November 8th with the opening of the new Peak 8 Base area, new ski facility, and new and improved snowmaking equipment. Celebrate the God of Winter at Ullr Fest with the main street parade, the world’s unofficial longest shot ski, a polar plunge and more!
Copper Mountain’s trails will be snow-covered and ready to welcome skiers and riders on November 8th. Copper kicks off the season with free live music throughout the weekend and the Woodward Barn Bash, featuring fun for all ages at the Woodward Copper Barn.
All that’s left to do is book your luxury accommodations with River Ridge Rentals and hope for snow!
