Summit County is perfect for skiers but it’s also home to another favorite winter past-time: ice skating! Both indoor and outdoor rinks are open to the public, as well as places to get out on the frozen lake.
The always family-friendly Keystone offers two locations for outdoor ice skating. Dercum Square, located right outside of Kidtopia Headquarters in River Run Village, is a 7,200 square foot rink that is free and open to the public. Perfect for beginners, this rink offers skate rentals for both kids and adults, as well as assistance stands for first-timers. When it’s time to get off the ice, choose any of the restaurants in River Run Village for a cocktail to warm you up.
If you’ve never had the opportunity to go lake skating, then lace up your skates and head to Keystone Lake. One of the largest outdoor skating rinks in North America, Keystone Lake offers five acres of zamboni-maintained ice. Open from 9 am to 9 pm, admission is $15 and skate rentals are available for the whole family. Take a break in the Adventure Center where you can grab a snack, play arcade games, or just relax in the lounge area.
You’ll find lake skating on Copper’s West Lake, located in Center Village. Broomball and hockey equipment are available for free on a first-come, first-serve basis and skate rentals are available in City Pop. Bring the whole family and roast marshmallows at the lakeside fire pit!
Located at the intersection of Main Street and South Park Avenue, Maggie Pond in Breckenridge is the perfect spot right in town and great for all ages and experience levels. It is dependent on weather conditions but skate rentals are available from the Village at Breckenridge.
The Stephen C. West Ice Arena in Breckenridge offers indoor and outdoor skating rinks with public skate hours offered daily. Pick-up hockey games are open to all experience levels and rentals are available on site.
